Taramps amplifiers from the T CHIPEO line have protections against output short-circuit, low and high supply voltage, and thermal protection. Below you can find the different ways these amplifiers indicate protection and how to resolve them:
🔴 Red LED flashing 2 times: Indicates that a voltage equal to or below 9V has been detected at the amplifier's power terminals.

Common causes and how to resolve:
> Discharged battery: Recharge the battery using a battery charger (e.g., Taramps Smart Charger line). It is also possible that the battery has reached the end of its useful life, making recharging unfeasible, so it must be replaced.
> Bad contact: Check all system wiring. Cable oxidation is also a common reason why the amplifier does not receive sufficient power, usually caused by poor contact or wire exposed to oxygen.
> Wiring smaller than recommended: Follow the cable gauge recommendations according to the product manual. Besides the risk of cable overheating, thin cables also make it difficult for current to pass from the battery/power supply to the amplifier, consequently causing a lack of supply to the product.
🔴 Red LED flashing 3 times: Indicates that a voltage equal to or above 16V/17V was detected at the amplifier’s power terminals.

Common causes and how to resolve:
> Possible variation in the vehicle’s electrical system (including alternator and voltage regulator): Check and analyze possible faults in the vehicle’s electrical system that may be causing excessively high voltage.
> Possible variation in a 12V power supply: A defective 12V power supply/charger can also cause voltage increase in the system. Although they usually have a voltage regulator capped at 14.4V, a possible variation may cause this voltage to rise even further (up to approximately 18V depending on the case).
🔴 Red LED steady on: Indicates the amplifier detected a short-circuit or an impedance below the nominal value at the amplifier's output.

Common causes and how to resolve:
> Load (resulting from speaker association) lower than the amplifier’s nominal output impedance: Review the project planning. For example, considering a 4 Ohm amplifier and a 2 Ohm speaker (or even a set of speakers closing at an impedance below 4 Ohms), the amplifier may trigger this protection or even get damaged.
> Excessive cone excursion in the speaker: Overdriving the speaker can cause excessive cone excursion, which may generate coil shorts detected by the amplifier output, activating the protection. One option is to apply an HPF (High Pass Filter) adjustment to better control the cone excursion.
🟡 Yellow LED flashing: Thermal protection, indicating the amplifier is operating at an excessive temperature. When the amplifier reaches approximately 85°C (185°F), thermal protection activates, audio is cut off, and the yellow LED begins flashing. The internal cooler will run to quickly cool the components. Only when the amplifier reaches a safe temperature will the audio be restored, and the amplifier will return to normal. We recommend not turning off the amplifier so the cooling time is reduced by the cooler’s ventilation. The normal operating temperature for this amplifier is 65°C (149°F).

Common causes and how to resolve:
> Ventilation openings obstructed: The amplifier should be installed in a dry, ventilated location with at least 1" (25mm) of free space on each side. This module has an internal ventilation cooler, and installing it in a closed area obstructing the coolers can hinder airflow, causing poor cooling and rapid heating.
> Amplifier operating below its nominal output impedance: In some cases where the module works with a load below its nominal output impedance (e.g., a 4 Ohm amplifier with a 2 Ohm speaker), if the volume is insufficient to activate an output protection, the amplifier will heat up until exceeding its normal operating temperature, triggering thermal protection.
